Marisa Willard is a member of the Tech Savvy committee involved with community partnerships/marketing outreach and the board’s secretary. She recently attended the Personal Pathways Series for aspiring professional women held by author and motivational speaker Gwen Fujie.
Willard was sent to the seminar by AAUW Honolulu, through money set aside for leadership development. Willard found the Personal Pathways Series to be inspiring, saying Fujie provided “wonderful little gems” to help in finding and gaining the courage and confidence to achieve and attain what she wants.
“A quote by Judy Garland that she shared and that really spoke to me is, ‘Always be a first-rate version of yourself, rather than a second-rate version of someone else,'” Willard added.
AAUW Honolulu’s leadership committee identifies training and development opportunities available throughout the community or online. Members may also submit suggestions as to classes, seminars and conferences. Those who participate in a committee, serve on the AAUW Honolulu Branch Board of Directors or serve as a Director of AAUW-SM are eligible to receive financial support to attend these events. Scholarship opportunities are available for member leaders to attend AAUW’s national and Hawaii state convention, and NCCWSL.
