Just how does AAUW accomplish its mission to advance equity for women and girls? It fights for legislation on issues of education, civil rights, reproductive rights and economic security.
For those with a desire to be a soldier in the fight for gender equity get involved in AAUW-Honolulu’s “Lobby Corps.” Participants will meet at the Hawaii State Capitol on Friday, January 22, 2016 at noon. There, AAUW Honolulu Lobby Corps members will be joining Planned Parenthood of the Northwest and Hawaii in marking the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade court decision of 1973.
Lobby Corps has been an active AAUW project in Washington, DC since 1972. Nationally, the Lobby Corps has made tens of thousands of visits to congressional offices, making AAUW a familiar and respected name among members of Congress and their staffs. Because this corps has worked hand in hand with lobbying staff, it has made a significant, measurable impact in gender equity issues.
On January 22, 2016 AAUW Honolulu will initiate the program locally. For a brief glimpse at some of the issues that the membership will be confronting check out this useful AAUW brochure link: Reproductive Rights Quick Facts (September 2014), see: https://www.aauwaction.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Reproductive-Rights-nsa.pdf. Be a part of our local effort and join us on January 22nd!
